An Ode To Changing Your (Commuting) Approach

Katie and I are always up for expanding our knowledge for alternative ways of commuting, since she is car-less and I live a good distance from the office. So we attended the Rush Hour Happy Hour event put on by Way to Go – THE resource for reliable, eco-friendly commuting options in the Denver area. Personally, I have found their website very helpful for my RTD commute, being new to Colorado.

The goal of the happy hour, held last Thursday, was to encourage attendees to mix and mingle and ultimately find potential commuting partners, or “matches” – think of it as speed dating for carpoolers. Not only did we mix and mingle our hearts out but we also consumed great appetizers and wine (thanks Wynkoop Brewery) that helped fuel our participation. I even found a new carpooling partner AND won tickets to a Rapids game!

Hats off to Way to Go and their efforts for providing useful commuter information and trying to make Denver’s roads less congested.  And thanks to JR Goodwin for this great photo.

Way to Go wants to keep the fuel of these Rush Hour Happy Hours going and are open to suggestions on places to hold the next event. If your company is interested in hosting a commuter event for your employees, contact DRCOG (Way to Go is one of their services) at 303-480-6725.

Looking for other ways to get involved and make your commute to the office harder, better, faster, stronger? Well then we’ve got the perfect challenge for you from our partner, BikeDenver.

Starting today and running through June 24, BikeDenver is encouraging commuters to “conquer your commute” by biking to work every Wednesday, a great lead-up to Colorado’s official Bike to Work Day on Wednesday, June 24. Sign up and log your trips each week through Way to Go and by doing so, you have a chance to win some great prizes. And as an added bonus, Bike Denver is setting up breakfast stations around town so make sure to hit them up and show your support.

With a few rides under your belt on Wednesdays, you should feel up for the challenge to rally up your co-workers and register for Bike to Work Day.

We’ll see you on the road. Pedal to the metal, Denver!
